Despite the warm temperatures and running water, the fallout from the Texas Winter Storm in Mid-February that left Millions of Texans without power in and made ERCOT a household name for all the wrong reason is far from over. Power companies, financiers, policy makers and arguably the rest of the country is waiting to see how Texas reconciles its power market and how ERCOT responds following billion-dollar bills, wrongful death lawsuits and bankruptcies that are sure to pick up steam in the coming weeks.
How did we get here? How does the Energy Capital of the United States – Lose Power? And as we’ve seen in the last two weeks – Who’s to Blame?
We wanted some answers too, thus we decided on a three-part series featuring five of the sharpest minds in energy to discuss the role renewables, the grid, deregulation and complacency played in the freeze fiasco; and then what steps need to be taken, or what conversations need to be held – to ensure this type of calamity doesn’t happen again.
For Part One, we welcome former CAISO CEO Steve Berberich and Blue Sky Power CEO Ben Parvey.
Stay tuned for Part Two where we welcome Evan Caron, Founder of Clear Trace and HGP Storage; and Ken Donohoo, one of the original ERCOT employees and now Sr. Director of Engineering for Electric Power Engineers.
Part Three will feature long-time University of Houston lecturer and Zero Carbo Cycle Co-Founder Edward Hirs.
