Christie Obiaya CEO joined Heliogen two-and-a-half years ago to help advance the energy transition by using concentrated solar. On episode 210 learn how a field of mirrors called heliostats create dispatchable energy by using the sun’s heat to their benefit. With the access energy being stored in molten salt, hot rocks, and steam accumulators, the electric power generated can go directly to a facility or go to the grid. This is a good alternative form of power for mining locations.
Heliogen is taking existing technology and enhancing it. Their enhancements allow concentrated solar to do what it hasn’t done before.
Christie goes on to tell The Green Insider who their first two projects are with – the city of Lancaster, CA. and Woodside Energy from Australia.
