Hear from SolMicroGrid’s new CEO Kirk Edelman

Today’s guest is the new CEO of SolMicroGrid, Kirk Edelman.  Learn how SolMicroGrid provides systems that include distributed energy resources like solar array, generation, battery storage, EV Charging, and a sophisticated control system.

Kirk goes on to discuss our aging power grids, the effect of severe weather events, the increased risk of power outages, and the overall continuing use of more and more energy.  The microgrid helps solve some of these problems by creating resilience for their customers.

Energy as a Service is what SolMicroGrid offers their clients.  Their focus is the Commercial Industrial market but can provide this service to other industries as well.  Kirk is excited how their strategic partnership with Morgan Stanley will support the growth of SolMicroGrid’s business.

Kirk Edelman, CEO – SolMicroGrid

Kirk Edelman is a driven leader and proven energy executive with a 25+ year history of success managing multi-cultural teams focused on investing in power, oil gas, natural resources and infrastructure projects. Knows the energy business from many perspectives having been a developer, advisor, OEM, lender and investor in this space.  

Started his career as an engineer with Exxon and following business school, transitioned into more senior roles with companies like Catalyst Energy, Translink Transmission and Siemens.  Has held senior positions in financial services firms like Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and TD Securities and has also led several energy investment organizations including those within Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, GMAC and Siemens Financial Services where he built a $15 billion investment portfolio. 

He was the Chief Commercial Officer of Safari Energy – a leading solar company, where he helped build a $300 million portfolio of operating assets. He eventually assisted its owner, PPL Corp, in selling the company to an affiliate of the Carlyle Group.  In 2022, Mr. Edelman became the Chief Commercial Officer of Verdagy, Inc., a pre-revenue green hydrogen company until accepting the CEO position at SolMicroGrid, a leading developer of microgrid and DER projects.   SolMicroGrid is a Morgan Stanley Energy Partners portfolio company.

A graduate of Bucknell University (BS Civil Engineering with honors) and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School (MBA Finance).  Board memberships have included: The German American Chamber of Commerce, NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management and Cornell University’s Program in Infrastructure Policy (CPIP).
