Lithium EV batteries are safer, more reliable , and cost affective

The Green Insider brings you a history lesson on lithium and EV batteries.  On episode 213 hear Dr. Srini Godavarthy, CEO of Li-Metal Corp. discuss everything lithium.

Li-Metal technology enables an EV battery to increase its range by two to three times, become more reliable, safer, faster to charge, while making the battery more cost effective.

Historically the price of lithium has had some significant movement.  In 2011 the price was $5/kg, 2018 $25/kg, 2022 $81/kg, and in 2023 it traded down to $21/kg.  Dr. Godavarthy tells us after all that, the sweet spot for pricing should be $24-$28/kg.  As the demand trajectory of the EV market continues to point higher, the pricing of lithium and the cost of EV vehicles should continue to be aligned.

Dr. Srini Godavarthy, CEO of Li-Metal Corp.

Dr. Srini Godavarthy, an experienced lithium executive, joined Li-Metal as Chief Executive Officer in May 2023, bringing with him more than 20 years of commercial and operational experience, with a global leadership background in specialty chemicals and lithium battery materials. Prior to joining Li-Metal, Dr. Godavarthy held the role of SVP of Portfolio Management at PTT Global Chemical (“PTTGC”), a multi-billion dollar publicly listed chemical company, where he was responsible for the identification, acquisition, integration, and divestiture of companies that supported PTTGC’s sustainability and growth strategy.

Before joining PTTGC, Dr. Godavarthy led the lithium metals and specialty salts business at Albemarle Corp, where his team was responsible for the commercial and technology development efforts for lithium metal, solid-state electrolytes, and lithium metal anodes. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from the University of Madras, a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and an MBA in Finance from Colorado State University.

About Li-Metal Corp.

Li-Metal Corp. (CSE: LIM) was founded in 2018 by Maciej Jastrzebski and Tim Johnston to address an emerging and prevailing underlying trend in the electrification of transportation – the transition from conventional lithium-ion batteries to next-generation lithium batteries such as solid-state batteries. The Canadian-based vertically integrated battery materials company and innovator is commercializing technologies to enable next-generation batteries for electric vehicles and other applications.

Li-Metal’s patented lithium metal technology, which was recognized on the TIME Best Inventions List for 2023, and roll-to-roll physical vapor deposition (PVD) anode technology is significantly more sustainable and cost-effective than existing solutions and can help enable lighter, more energy-dense and safer batteries. The Company’s battery materials support battery developers’ ability to power more cost-effective electric vehicles that go farther and unlock the future of transportation.
